Day in the life of a Trade Counter Sales Assistant
Meet Hannah, a Trade Counter Sales Assistant in our Harold Hill Branch
What does your day-to-day role as a Trade Counter Sales Assistant entail?
The day to day role in the trade counter is quoting and processing orders for both Dorma and third-party products, whether that be from walk in trade, by phone, email or website. We also help customers with technical issues before and after placing their orders. At the trade counters, we also have our own warehouses that we send goods out for us, and on behalf of the service division.
What do you enjoy most about your role?
I enjoy the fact that at the trade counter, we have walk in trade, as we get to deal with our customers on a face to face level, which helps to build customer relationships, and can help when dealing with more complicated enquiries.
What is the most challenging aspect of your role?
The most challenging aspect of this role would be the technical side of the role, as customers don’t just come to us with part numbers ready, they may have minimal details and we need to work out what they require and what would work best for them- this means that we need to have a good knowledge of our products.
What are the top 3 skills/qualities need to succeed in this role?
You need to have good customer service skills as we are dealing with customers all day every day. We also need to build good relationships with our customers and our suppliers. A technical mindset is also very useful, as it is very helpful when trying to learn and understand all the different products. Patience is also needed as there are a lot of customers that are coming to us for help, but may not have the same understanding and knowledge as us.
Just for fun…
Which fictional character do you wish you could meet?
If I could meet a fictional character, it would be the Doctor (from Doctor Who of course), as you could experience the past and the future, as well as the wonders of the universe, which in real life, it an impossibility that we all dream of!
