Day in the life of a Product Marketing Manager
Meet John, a Product Marketing Manager in our Projects Team
What does your day-to-day role as a Product Marketing Manager entail?
No two days are the same and the role is diverse and has many touch points across the business. My main responsibilities focus on product strategy, lifecycle management and certification, complemented by supporting sales and marketing.
A typical day may involve several Skype or Teams-based calls with local colleagues and conference calls with Product Managers and SBO’s, planning and executing new product launches, managing local pricing and developing local sales & marketing initiatives.
What led you into this career/role?
It was a natural transition from 25+ years spent in commercial and sales positions with many transferable skills appropriate to the role. The opportunities for career progression within the dormakaba organisation was also a key enabler.
What is the most rewarding element of your role?
Providing a support function to the business, and seeing how my efforts and the work that I do help my colleagues to achieve their own objectives. Being part of the Solutions & Projects Management team, provides a keen insight into other areas of the projects business such as project management, technical support, engineering and finance.
What advice would you give to someone considering the role of a PMM with dormakaba?
It’s not for the faint-hearted! The biggest challenge is that 90% of the work is at the behest of the business. Time management, balancing workload and prioritising is key. If you like a challenge, enjoy helping your colleagues and don’t mind some unpredictability, then it’s definitely worth considering.
Just for fun…
What film can you watch over and over again, without getting tired of?
The Blind Side
