By registering your dormakaba (formerly Kaba) locking system and the associated keys, it is ensured that duplicate keys and cylinder orders can only be carried out by authorised persons. Thanks to dormakaba registration, the owner of the system always has control over their locking system.

Replacing the Cylinder?

New door locks (cylinders) or locking systems are not always necessary. If the key cannot be assigned to a specific property, the lock usually does not need to be replaced. Depending on the importance of the key, you may need to replace some or all affected cylinders/keys in mechanical locking systems. If you lost the key together with personal documents, there is a risk that an unwanted guest could enter the apartment or shared rooms. In this case, the lock should be replaced. Here you can find a dormakaba partner near you.

Who Pays for Lost Keys?

In principle, a lost key must be replaced at your own expense. Household insurance: This only covers costs in case of theft. It will cover both the cost of a replacement key and a new door lock or entire locking system. Personal liability insurance: If you are responsible for the loss of the key and the lock needs to be changed, you should report the damage to your personal liability insurance. If covered, it usually covers the costs.

Keys found on public transport or at train stations or stops can be handed in to staff or at the operator's counter. Under SBB Lost Property Service you will find a list of transport companies that participate in the lost property service.

If you have found something on public property (e.g. on the street), you can hand in the found item at the nearest lost and found office.

• Reputable locksmith services typically do not use phone numbers with the 0800 or 0900 prefix.

• Be cautious if the person on the phone does not speak the local language.

• Ask for the exact company name over the phone. Unreliable locksmiths often respond with vague terms like “handyman service” or “locksmith service,” etc.

• Look for a price list on the provider’s website.

Price

• A reputable locksmith will inform you of costs over the phone. Prices can vary, but you should be wary of exceptionally high rates.

• Surcharges are typically applied for services outside of regular business hours.

The Local Locksmith

• A reputable professional will ask you for ID.

• Be skeptical if a locksmith wants to drill out your lock immediately; this is usually unnecessary and results in extra costs.

• Do not pay on the spot; request an invoice instead.

After Using a Locksmith

Report the key loss to your landlord or the police to ensure the security of the building. You can request a detailed invoice of the costs.

The digital key opens the door to your home. Just like a conventional key, the digital key is a personal and copy-protected key. You store digital keys in the mobile access app. The transmission is end-to-end encrypted. Since the access data itself is also encrypted, the smartphone cannot access it. This way, your smartphone becomes an access medium and opens the door to your home.

In access management apps such as evolo smart or resivo, digital keys and access media can be deleted by the manager at any time. This ensures that no one can gain access with a stolen smartphone.
