The new Hamburg landmark whose curved roof towers 110 metres into the sky with its international appeal, widely visible throughout the city. The concert hall, designed by Swiss , lies directly on the Elbe is surrounded on three sides by water. Within this spectacular architecture, the combination of three concert halls, the Plaza offering a view over Hamburg and its harbour at 37 metres above ground level, a music education area, restaurants, a hotel and 45 residential units make the Elbphilharmonie a building for everyone. dormakaba’s solution
Because the Plaza can only accommodate 1,200 persons at once for reasons of safety and fire protection, visitors going to the plaza or concert halls must pass the dormakaba access control systems. The complex ticketing and entry control system is used to control the flow of visitors. Pedestrian flow control and camera metering were moreover to be used to monitor the number of visitors. To meet the planners’ requirements, special made of black coated stainless steel were developed and manufactured for the entrance area. Their custom design is slightly wider in order to comfortably admit e.g. visitors in evening dress, and while they are elegant, they are also very robust. Five with automatic door elements were installed by dormakaba for visitors with disabilities. These allow comfortable, contactless entry for persons in wheelchairs and families with pushchairs or small children. Moreover, by dormakaba at the entrances to the parking garage, the Plaza and the Westin Hotel ensure accessibility. that are just seven centimetres high integrate perfectly into the modern yet classic door design of the Elbphilharmonie and ensure that heavy, frequently used doors in the entire building are fully accessible, convenient to use, and, most importantly, can easily be opened and closed even in high winds. by dormakaba are additionally installed on approximately 3000 hotel, office and residential unit entrances. Their high quality easily meets all required norms, particularly DIN 18040 for accessible entry. of the ITS 96 series, which can be controlled via the fire detection system, are used for the referenced preventative fire protection system. In the event of a fire, these doors will be securely closed.
