Celebrating a decade of dormakaba in Australia and New Zealand - over 160 years of global innovation

On 1 September 2025, dormakaba marks a significant milestone: ten years since the 2015 global merger of DORMA and Kaba, a transformative union that brought together two pioneers of access solutions with a combined heritage stretching back over 160 years.

For dormakaba Australia and New Zealand, this tenth anniversary is a chance to reflect on a remarkable journey of growth, innovation, and collaboration, not only with our dedicated team but also with our valued network of customers, industry professionals, and partners who continue to shape our shared success.

A Legacy of progress – globally and locally

While the dormakaba name is a decade old, our roots run deep. Kaba was founded in Switzerland in 1862, and DORMA in Germany in 1908. Both brands earned reputations as leaders in access control, security, and architectural hardware long before they came together under one global brand in 2015.

This shared expertise laid the foundation for dormakaba to become one of the world’s top three providers of access solutions, now operating in over 130 countries, employing more than 15,000 people worldwide, and holding around 1,600 active patents.

Locally, our presence dates back nearly 50 years. Kaba was officially registered in Australia in 1972, followed by DORMA’s registration in Australia and New Zealand in 1981. Since then, we've proudly contributed to thousands of projects across the region, from commercial buildings to healthcare facilities, education campuses to transport hubs, retail centres to residential complexes and critical infrastructure to government institutions.

The 2015 merger of DORMA and Kaba marked the beginning of a new chapter, one that fused mechanical ingenuity with digital intelligence. In the decade since, dormakaba has become synonymous with innovation, trusted partnerships and reliable performance.
