Michaelsberg Siegburg Abbey
Those driving into Siegburg see the emblem of the city, the Michaelsberg Abbey, from quite a distance. Like a castle, the cloister founded in 1096 sits enthroned stately upon a hill with its church in the middle of the city. Now the Michaelsberg Abbey is shining like new. The famous Cologne architecture firm meyerschmitzmorkramer extensively expanded the cloister to a convention centre and now, with a new building, the forum, has created a harmonious ensemble, which Federal Chancellor Angela Merkel called a “gem” at the inauguration in May 2017.

dormakaba’s solution
After detailed planning of the individual doors, the long-time dormakaba partner Holzbau Schmid took over designing the doors. The swing door operators on many exterior and interior doors in the Abbey and in the new building provide secure, automatic opening and closing. The ED 250 swing door operators, at a height of only 7cm, fit perfectly with the look of the high-quality doors and provide an open and comfortable feel with the highly frequented doors within the entire building complex.
At approximately 90 wooden fire protection doors: entrance doors, hallway doors and doors that separate fire compartments are equipped with door closers and hold-open systems of series ITS 96, TS 93. Their high quality easily meets all required standards, particularly DIN 18040 and DIN SPEC 1104 for accessible entry. Hold-open systems of the ITS 96 series, which can be controlled via the fire detection system and smoke detectors, are used for preventative fire protection.
While the door closers are designed mainly with functionality in mind, the fittings equipped on the glass doors impress with their harmonic symbiosis of function and design, adding to the charm of every door. The fittings of the Studio, Junior and Universal series showcase the special character and transparency of the glass doors with their compact form and elegant design.
