The Cradle is the first wood-hybrid office building in Düsseldorf’s Media Harbour, offering 6,600 square meters of office space in a prime location on the Rhine. Its striking diamond-shaped glass and wood facade encloses a wood and concrete structure using modular construction methods. The building is impressive not only because of its striking architecture, but also for its pioneering sustainability concept. It is powered with ecologically generated energy, and the environmentally friendly manufacture of the original construction materials is also taken into account.

Access control system

The Düsseldorf-based company Gölzner GmbH was brought onboard as an expert in security technology. With more than 75 years of extensive experience, Gölzner is considered a specialist in projects with exacting requirements. The company consulted on, planned and installed the access control system for the entire project, including the offline components and mechanical locking systems. Together with the client, they opted for dormakaba’s browser-based MATRIX Professional software system. This manages and controls both unwired access components and networked access readers in a clearly structured overall system.

Düsseldorf car-sharing – access control by PIN code

Together with a partner, The Cradle offers an electric car and pedelec sharing service in Düsseldorf. These vehicles can be booked and returned at the Service Point in the lobby or via the The Cradle app.

Access control to the car-sharing area is a central element of the MATRIX system and occurs via PIN code readers at two external doors. These allow car-sharing users access once they have made a booking. The user receives an e-mail from the car-sharing portal with a unique PIN code. This code, together with the start and end times of the booking, is stored on a server in real time. An export file provides all users with secure access to the vehicle. As every PIN code can only be used once, the presence of users on the site is fully traceable.
