Barnsley College

dormakaba offers stylish revolving door solution to Barnsley College’s commercial restaurant.

The solution

To achieve these aims, dormakaba replaced the existing automatic sliding doors with the Geryon Revolving Door. Thanks to its design, the product offers optimum thermal separation for entrances. dormakaba also installed all of the associated wall connections, such as fanlights and solid infill panels, creating a tight seal without any gaps for water and air to pass through.

To achieve barrier-free access, The Geryon Revolving Door was combined with an automatic swing door suitable for reduced mobility. Both were equipped with remote demand locking, ensuring reception staff have the ability to manage the restaurant’s entrance system from their reception desk. For additional security, external night locking was included.

The installation was completed successfully and to a very tight timescale during the college’s break for winter - avoiding any construction during the semester when the restaurant experiences a high level of footfall.

"We worked with dormakaba on the installation of a revolving door and accessible pass door for our college restaurant, plus the removal of the existing doors and modifications to some glazed curtain walling. We are very pleased with the final result"

The issue

dormakaba worked with Barnsley College to improve access to The Open Kitchen restaurant on Old Mill Lane Campus. The primary aim was to reduce ingress of cold air, allowing the building to maintain a comfortable temperature as well as cut down on its heating costs. Moreover, it was key to ensure barrier-free access for wheelchair and ambulant users and to improve the aesthetics of the restaurant with an elegant entrance system.
