Karen Kissane – Employee Spotlight

  • How long have you worked at dormakaba?

    • A: In total I have worked at dormakaba for just over 22 years. I was originally employed from 1991 – 2011 and returned 12 years later in 2023.

  • Could you tell us your job title and a little about what the role entails?

    • A: I hold the position of support coordinator in our Irish office. My role entails, providing support across all divisions of the business covering many different departments.

  • Can you describe a typical workday for yourself?

    • A: My work pattern is 8am to 5pm Monday to Friday. No two days are the same as I could be providing support by creating project orders, ordering stock, assisting accounts, creating invoices, scheduling engineers. So, lots of tasks, varying from day to day.

  • What is your favourite part of your job?

    • A: I really enjoy working alongside my colleagues in Ireland & UK and I love that my role is so varied. It’s great to carry out tasks in all the different divisions and areas of the business.

  • How do you like to spend your time outside of work?

    • A: I like to kayak and together with my husband John, (also an employee of dormakaba), we own a 26ft sailing yacht. I’m definitely a fair-weather sailor and enjoy the slower pace of cruising rather than racing. I also like to watch crime dramas and read.

  • What’s something most people at work might not know about you?

    • A: My Father used to be the MD of what was known back in the day as Dorma Door Controls / Dorma Ireland and I used the answer the phones and send orders by Telex on my school holidays when I was 11/12 years of age.

  • If you could swap roles with anyone for a day (inside or outside of dormakaba), who would it be?

    • A: It’s not so much of a role I’d swap, but I would love to be invisible for the day, I could get up to a lot of mischief, and I think it would be great fun!

  • What do you enjoy most about working at dormakaba?

    • A: I enjoy the flexibility my role brings and that I get to speak with so many different people every day.

  • What advice would you give to someone starting at dormakaba?

    • A: I would say, embrace it, take all the knowledge you can get. Dormakaba is always moving forward, it’s an exciting place to work!

  • And finally……..Tea or Coffee?!

    • A: Tea, never Coffee and I love a good Hot Chocolate!
