Karen Kissane – Employee Spotlight
How long have you worked at dormakaba?
A: In total I have worked at dormakaba for just over 22 years. I was originally employed from 1991 – 2011 and returned 12 years later in 2023.
Could you tell us your job title and a little about what the role entails?
A: I hold the position of support coordinator in our Irish office. My role entails, providing support across all divisions of the business covering many different departments.
Can you describe a typical workday for yourself?
A: My work pattern is 8am to 5pm Monday to Friday. No two days are the same as I could be providing support by creating project orders, ordering stock, assisting accounts, creating invoices, scheduling engineers. So, lots of tasks, varying from day to day.
What is your favourite part of your job?
A: I really enjoy working alongside my colleagues in Ireland & UK and I love that my role is so varied. It’s great to carry out tasks in all the different divisions and areas of the business.
How do you like to spend your time outside of work?
A: I like to kayak and together with my husband John, (also an employee of dormakaba), we own a 26ft sailing yacht. I’m definitely a fair-weather sailor and enjoy the slower pace of cruising rather than racing. I also like to watch crime dramas and read.
What’s something most people at work might not know about you?
A: My Father used to be the MD of what was known back in the day as Dorma Door Controls / Dorma Ireland and I used the answer the phones and send orders by Telex on my school holidays when I was 11/12 years of age.
If you could swap roles with anyone for a day (inside or outside of dormakaba), who would it be?
A: It’s not so much of a role I’d swap, but I would love to be invisible for the day, I could get up to a lot of mischief, and I think it would be great fun!
What do you enjoy most about working at dormakaba?
A: I enjoy the flexibility my role brings and that I get to speak with so many different people every day.
What advice would you give to someone starting at dormakaba?
A: I would say, embrace it, take all the knowledge you can get. Dormakaba is always moving forward, it’s an exciting place to work!

A: Tea, never Coffee and I love a good Hot Chocolate!
