Government Office Building - Ireland

dormakaba Ireland installs secure automatic doors for government office building in Ireland

A Government Office building in the Midlands wanted to improve accessibility and security onsite. Peter Barry, Sales Representative for dormakaba, worked closely with the client and onsite teams to ensure the strict brief was met.

“Since the installation, we have had good feedback from staff and public regarding the ease of access; the entrance point to building looks excellent and refreshed, and is clearly defined, with additional security elements working well. With no pull or push handles or plates, this limits common contamination points, which is crucial to hindering the spread of viruses.”

The end client wanted to bring the building in line with current building regulations under Technical Guidance Document M, to improve accessibility throughout the building with no compromise on the tight security necessary for a building of this nature.

Having worked previously with dormakaba and following its proven track record and established product reliability, the client approached the company to explore sliding door solutions. Upon working with the client on the requirements and nature of the building’s use, Peter Barry recommended and supplied ST Flex Secure Sliding Doors.

Tested and certified to Burglar Resistance RC2, the sliding door system offers an unparalleled level of security, combining the convenience of automatic sliding doors with additional anti-intruder protection; such as a secure 4-point locking device and laminated safety glass. The product also meets all requirements for accessibility under Technical Guidance Document M, as required in the client brief.

To support the installation, the dormakaba team visited site numerous times to ensure that the preliminary building works were carried out effectively, and the third party contracting team were also supported throughout.

Gerard Horan, Architectural Services - Property Maintenance for the project, said: “We required a solution so that staff and public visitors to the building could independently access required services, whilst enhancing additional security, fire, and health and safety requirements specific to the building. We also had to ensure these doors were easy to use to ensure accessibility to those with vision, hearing and mobility requirements.

“In addition, we were on a strict schedule to facilitate these works, as normal building services had to be maintained, and could not be compromised for staff and public accessing government services. Peter Barry and the rest of the dormakaba team worked with us to provide a solution that incorporated all of this into the design of the doors, and ensured the installation went ahead smoothly and to schedule.
