An architectural icon and Birmingham landmark, Fort Dunlop was for many years the headquarters and factory of the Dunlop Rubber company, but for the last quarter century stood abandoned until its dramatic redevelopment by regeneration specialists Urban Splash into office and retail space.
After 150 years in Birmingham City centre, Trinity Mirror Midlands, owners of the Birmingham Post & Mail, relocated to take the entire top floor of the building – all 53,582sq ft of it. At over an acre in area, this makes it the largest open plan office space in the country outside of London.

dormakaba’s contribution to the project
Anton Jeanes, Associate at M MOSER, “Our design brief priority was to make the most of this enormous light, airy space. The aesthetic styling of the dormakaba products suited the predominantly open plan design perfectly.”
The unique dormakaba BEYOND pinch free glass door system provided an impressive solution, creating individual work areas with the open plan concept.
The offices were complemented with dormakaba MANET over panel connectors and doorstops for the glass screens, along with dormakaba Studio Rondo Patch Locks. These are designed for demanding office environments and combine reliable service with a range that is comprehensive enough to offer maximum scope for design opportunities.
