KING’S CROSS STATION - LONDON (GBR)

Fusing technology and modern design with London’s Victorian heritage

Architect

John McAslan & Partners

Distributor

Scott Beaven Radius Ltd

Location

London, United Kingdom

Originally built in 1852, the new-look King’s Cross Station combines old and new architecture to transform this historic facility into a transport hub fit for the 21st Century. The regeneration included complete refurbishment of the Grade I Listed Western Range used by station staff, train-operating companies and their management teams.

Architectural Highlights
The station’s core architectural piece is the new station hall with its white shell-shaped, grid like steel and glass construction designed by John McAslan & Partners.  This creates a gigantic light-filled room where numerous shops and cafés provide a pleasant resting place for commuters and travellers.

dormakaba’s contribution to the project
With dormakaba’s products renowned for elegance, reliability and long term performance, the redevelopment of London’s King’s Cross Railway Station used an extensive range of automatic door operators, door closers and ironmongery provided by architectural ironmongery specialists Scott Beaven Radius Ltd.

A series of dormakaba ED 100 Low Energy swing door operators were supplied to enable doors to be opened under power when required and used as a conventional manual swing door at all other times.

dormakaba TS 93 cam action door closers also proved ideal for the heavily trafficked site.  Providing minimal resistance throughout the opening and closing cycle, they provide a much easier and safer door operation for the busy station.
