When it came to the construction of a new £8.5 million Education and Enterprise (Eden) Centre at Europe’s only ecumenical University, architects Halsall Lloyd Partnership required 21st century design features that had performance, durability and aesthetics in mind.
Architectural Highlights
The stunning new Eden building is home to the University’s education faculty and also provides the Northwest with a first class international conference facility. Located on the Hope Park campus four miles from Liverpool City Centre, this impressive piece of architecture houses a 250 seat lecture theatre complete with a state of the art interpretation system, executive boardroom, classrooms, offices, glass atrium, plus 'breakout rooms' and a coffee bar.
dormakaba’s contribution to the project
To provide safe and reliable closing of the numerous internal doors, Halsall Lloyd had no hesitation in specifying products from dormakaba. “We have used dormakaba products on a number of projects” commented Bob York of Halsall Lloyd. “Our experience of dormakaba products is of high quality design and manufacture and virtually silent and reliable operation. They perform their job admirably and are commensurate with the high quality aspirations that Hope University hold for their campus.”
Architectural hardware distributor PSL supplied some 96 x TS 92 silver Contur cam action door closers for a use on the internal conference and classroom timber doors and a further 37 x TS 93 silver Contur cam action door closers for corridor doors where disabled access was a priority.
The cam action door closers were chosen due to the minimal resistance throughout the opening and closing cycle making it a much easier and safer door operation for a busy university. These easy to use and stylish closers have a built in slide arm and are fully adjustable.
For ease of access at the entrances to the campus, dormakaba automatic swing, sliding and revolving doors were selected.
